Dan, this is really interesting about the felts. But it has me wondering...I have seen some felts that feature the images of flags of countries around the world. Does it make sense that these felts would have been used as ink blotters since it would have been considered disrespectful to mar the image of the flag? I wonder in what order the felts were produced and distributed.
